MOTOGP
LEGEND KEVIN SCHWANTZ AND AMA SUPERBIKE STAR ERIC BOSTROM JOIN DIRECTOR
MARK NEALE AND FANS AT THE STATE-OF-THE-ART ARCLIGHT CINEMAS
Kicking off an opening weekend that drew 2000 moviegoers, motorcycle fans
packed the house on Friday night, April 23rd, at Hollywood’s top
movie palace, the ArcLight Cinemas, for the Los Angeles premiere of FASTER.
On hand to celebrate the action-packed documentary about MotoGP were the
legendary, 25-time 500cc GP winner and 1993 500cc GP World Champion KEVIN
SCHWANTZ – prominently featured in FASTER -- and current AMA Superbike
star ERIC BOSTROM.
And, of course, there were bikes. Bostrom surprised onlookers when he
rode his custom Von Dutch Ducati 999 right into the courtyard of the cinema,
where he joined Schwantz and a pack of fans for photos and autograph-signing.
For an extra treat, Mike Unger of Honda of Hollywood brought a Suzuki
GSXR1000 replica of the bike ridden by reigning AMA Superbike champion
Mat Mladin.
After the screening, Schwantz and Bostrom spoke about the movie and their
careers, and answered questions from the audience, along with FASTER’s
award-winning director, MARK NEALE. Cycle World Magazine’s Executive
Editor Brian Catterson led the conversation.
As for the press, The Los Angeles Times praised FASTER for “taking
viewers into the thrilling world of the MotoGP.” Variety, the top
entertainment business publication, described it as “Often thrilling,
always compelling…it provides the kind of involving human element
achieved by the best sports docus,” and the LA Weekly called it
“awesome.”
FASTER was recently picked up for distribution in U.S. cinemas by the
Los Angeles-based film company, Slamdance On The Road. The company’s
president, Peter Baxter, commented that “On screen, FASTER gives
a raw, true-to-life look at the most extreme motorcycle races in the world.
What we see off-screen is just how dedicated its fans are. During a weekend
of big summer movie openings, we sold out the house.”
FASTER is the most true-to-life look at grand prix motorcycle racing ever
brought to the screen. Featuring today’s top riders, including Rossi
and Biaggi, along with the greats who shaped the sport, like Schwantz,
Rainey, Roberts and Sheene, FASTER crosses five continents during the
2001-2002 MotoGP championship seasons, to capture all the speed, the egos,
the broken bones and the babes of the fastest, most challenging bike races
in the world. Narrated by film star Ewan McGregor (“Star Wars”
I, II, III).
The film will be released internationally later this year.
FASTER is directed by Mark Neale, and is a film by Spark Productions in
association with Dorna Sports SL. Executive producers are Ian MacLean
and Chris Paine. Produced by Stephen Lim.
